understanding racism 101 is your starting point.

With 10+ years of experience, we have developed an experience that is designed to be your staring point in understanding race, racism and your organization’s role in it all. If you have been watching the news, seeing the protests and wondering where to start for your team; this is your starting point. Understanding Racism 101 will take you on a path that ends with you developing an antiracism plan for you and your organization. The experience is split into three sections:

 
 

UNDERSTAND

Historical Context & Defining Terms

Section one is the foundation for the anti-racism sessions and provides a timeline of historical context for Racism in America. Participants walk through definitions of racist power, policies, and ideas to further understand reflect on a call to anti-racist action.

UNPACK

Power & Privilege

Section two focuses on power and privilege and the impact that has on greater systems in the United States (i.e. education, healthcare, justice). Participants consider the ideas of "normal" and "other" and reflect on internal aspects of racism, while unpacking their own privilege.

MOVE

Creating an Anti-Racist Action Plan

In section three, participants are asked to commit by developing an anti-racist action plan in both their personal and professional lives. We break down anti-racism planning into education, activism, and relationships and reflect, then set goals in those areas.

 
 

How we come in…

Between our facilitators and the guide we have created, there are a few ways that we can partner with your organization. Bring us to your team, have us educate and inspire with a keynote or, give your team an opportunity to do this work self-directed.

 
 

FACILITATOR LED

Our facilitators will come to you (either in person or virtually) and guide your community through all three sessions. We recommend a four hour block of time for this work. You are able to have all four hours in one day or break it up over two days if you prefer.

KEYNOTE + SELF GUIDED TRAINING

We will provide your team with an opening keynote highlighting the three sections, helping your team understand why this conversation and training is so vital to progress and leaving them inspired and ready to dive in as they begin their self directed journey through our curriculum.

SELF GUIDED TRAINING

You will provide your organization with our curriculum that is specifically designed for self guided or team based work and development.

DR. ED BARRON

Dr. Ed D. Barron, a Diversity and Leadership consultant as well as an accomplished events speaker. He has spent more than over 30 years developing his expertise in fields ranging from small nonprofits to large multinational corporations. He is well known for conducting content specific workshops dealing with all aspects of Diversity and its intersection of Leadership. Ed is also the Chair of the department of Leadership and Organizational Psychology Department at Azusa Pacific University. His teaching specialties include: Systems and Strategic Planning for Leaders, Leadership Theory and Practice and Leader as Agent of Change.

BRIT BARRON

Brit is a speaker, writer and advocate. Her work addresses the ways in which race, gender, and sexuality interact with our everyday lives. Brit has experience creating and facilitating interactive workshops, training, and writing on these topics through work in higher education, non-profit organizations, and currently as a diversity consultant. Brit’s current guide “Understanding Racism 101” is being used all over the country to get people and organizations involved in this very important work.
